Accommodation in Prague

Accommodation in Prague will probably be most expensive item on your itinerary. Prague is busy all year round so it is best to arrange accommodation in Prague before you depart. If you are travelling around Christmas, Easter and July or August it is best to book well ahead. When looking for accommodation you should check both the price, and the distance from the city centre. Sometimes it is better to find accommodation further from the centre because, compared to other world cities, Prague is quite small and its public transport is very effective (but check different hotel offers, you may find a great deal in the centre) If you are planning to stay in private accommodation it is advised to view the property before handing over any money. The number of stars does not frequently correspond with international standards, because sometimes the owners class their businesses themselves. Nearly all hotels set prices depending on season. Obviously prices will be highest during peak times. (up to 20% higher in summer than during the low season).

Hotels Price Guide:

DELUXE HOTELS OVER 8000 CZK / OVER 200 GBP

TOP HOTELS FROM 5000 TO 8000 CZK / 120 - 200 GBP

MIDRANGE 2500 CZK TO 5000 CZK / 60 - 120 GBP

BUDGET UNDER 2500 CZK / UNDER 60 GBP

HOSTELS AROUND 500 CZK / 12 GBP (PER PERSON)

Many Prague residents renovated their houses and apartments for short or long term "accommodation". This can be good alternative to the hotels. In fact there are two types of this accommodation. First is called serviced apartments. You pre-book and then you pickup keys to apartment when you arrive to Prague. Most of those apartments are located in tourist areas etc. Second option is Pensions in Czech called Privát. Or look for sing Zimmer fri (rooms for rent). This kind of accommodation is rented mostly in same house as landlord live, kind of Bed and Breakfast. They are hard to pre-book and best is just to look on the house sings. We would say that quality varies rapidly so don't take just first one you see, specially if you stay more then one day.

Hotels Tips (special architecture and design):

- Hotel Maxmilian

- Hotel Josef

- Hotel Pariz

- K+K Hotel Central

- Carlo IV

- Arcotel Teatrino

- Hotel Neruda

- Aria Hotel

- Movenpick Hotel

- Andel's Hotel

- Riverside Hotel

Other Prague Hotels Tips:

In terms of a reasonable hotel, prices have caught up with the West pretty quickly. Maximilian Hotel is really nice, close to the old town square, but is a bit more expensive at around EUR 130/night. We also put guests at the Clarion, which is also really well-situated, and is cheaper starting at around CZK 2200/night.

You can also try the Jalta, which is right on Wenceslas Square. It used to be a nazzty old Commie hotel, but it’s since been renovated; they’ll even give you a room with a balcony overlooking Wenceslas Square if you ask. The rooms are nicely redesigned, but small. The prices are also around EUR 109/night.

Another super-nice place to stay would be the gorgeous Hotel Pariz, which is across the street from the Obecni dum. Real nice, and you can get a room for around EUR 140/night.

Some friends I know put their guests up at Dum velké boty (the ‘House at the Big Boot’) in Mala Strana, which looks really nice too, and is a small bed and breakfast.

And you can also try the Cloister Inn, which is cheaper at EUR 98, and also well-located in the Old Town.

Prague city has a few hundreds of hotels, new pop up all the time but still demand is very high as
it is prime tourist destination for city breaks. Also specially at the time of European public holidays, Christmas, Easter and from April to October book as soon as possible.
If you are expecting extremely cheap holidays in Prague, you will be disappointed. Prague is quite cheap but accommodation is one big exception. Some hotels offers off season discounts but still you wont find deals like in Thailand etc. Be prepared if you find some great deals saying this is 4 star hotel that it can be just 3 and half star etc. Some hotels offers quite good value but their location is not very handy.

Always check location, hotel name (is it world wide brand?) and then decide.
